In beginning my new Blog, I would be remiss in not thanking my greatest teacher. His name is Brandon, he is my son and he has Down Syndrome.

I say he is my teacher because he forced me to look for as many short cuts as I could to help him crawl, stand, eat, walk, talk and wipe his bum! He also taught me that there is humour and joy to be found everywhere. You just need to take the time to look at life from a different angle.

If you’ve happened upon this blog as a new parent of a Downsy Kid, let me share something I was given when I first found out that Brandon had Trisomy 21…

Having a Down Syndrome child is like having a holiday planned to Italy, except your plane lands in Holland.
When you get over the shock of not being in Italy, you begin to discover that there are some very interesting things to see and experience in Holland…
The pace isn’t as frenetic as it would be in Italy and you need to look a little harder to find the sights that it has to offer.
But searching for them just makes you appreciate what you do find all the more and you begin to realise how wonderful Holland really is.

So may I warmly welcome you to Holland!
